a creative journey- Interview with Olga Prinku

This week we are talking to OLGA PRINKU. I discovered her work on Instagram and her delicately elegant and curated account made me click follow straight away! Flowers are very dominant in her photos and the colours changes as the seasons move from one to the other, creating a beautiful flow. Wool and knitting are also very present and her limited collections are magical and unique each year.

You can also check her YouTube channel here for some great tutorials.

Hello Olga!

When did your creative journey start? It's a journey that started with motherhood. As my little boy was getting older, I wanted to see if I could find something to do that would be flexible enough to fit in alongside parenting and my husband's work.

Can you pick three words that describe how you feel when you are being creative?

I’d say focused (my attention is all concentrated on the process of making), relaxed (I feel no pressure, just a sense of flow), excited (to see what will emerge at the end as I never have a set plan or exact idea when I start).

As a creative where do you find your inspirations?

I know it’s a cliché, but mostly in nature. A lot of my ideas come from going for walks in the countryside near where I live, or things I grow in the garden. I’m a bit of a magpie, I like collecting twigs and various plants and leaves that I find on my days out and then see how I can use them. An idea will always emerge when I’m surrounded by my multitude of gatherings.

What’s the most valuable tip you would give to an aspiring maker starting their own creative business? Just to be true to themselves and find their own style and direction. And to not expect things to work out straight away. You need a lot of patience and perseverance before things start going your way :-).

If you were not an artist, what would you love to be instead?

I love design and making and also all things to do with homes and interiors. In fact I’m a trained graphic designer by profession. So If I wasn’t doing floral wreaths I’d probably really wish I could be an architect or interior designer.

Could you share three IG accounts that inspire you?

Of course! There’s just so much amazing talent on Instagram. It’s probably very difficult to pick just three :-). But I recently came across another maker called Arounna @bookhou and I love her punch needle creations. I also love the beautiful embroidery by Yumiko @yumikohiguchi and Sarah @sarahkbenning. Always so colourful and vibrant.
