Macrame Christmas Stars

November 1, 2019

Christmas is just around the corner and it's time to decorate our homes. If you are looking for Bohemian-inspired Christmas decorations, these Macrame Christmas Stars will go beautifully in any room in your home.

I am sharing two simple macrame tutorials using natural string that can be made more colourful by changing the string. You can also add fairy light and other decorations to make them more festive and to suit your decor.

Please share with me your version by tagging me on Instagram @_twome or Facebook @twomeuk

STAR 1

MATERIAL:

1 x Copper Star Wreath by Hobby Craft

47 meters cut in 146 x 30cm and 1 x 2.5 meters of Single Twist Natural string by Greenfibres

EQUIPMENT:

Scissors

Masking tape

Measuring tape

Pet Brush or normal brush

TUTORIAL:

1. Cut your 146 strings

2. Place the strings on the wreath using the Lark's Head Knot (tutorial for the knot here) PIC 1

3. Take your long string, leave a tail of about 10/15 cm and fix it on your flat surface with some masking tape near the top of the star PIC 2

4. Use the long string as guide and place your 146 strings on it using the Double half Hitch Knot (tutorial for the knot here) PIC3

5. Refer to PIC 4 & 5 below to see how to make your Double Half Hitch knots around the star point and angle.

6. Cut your strings at about 8/10 cm PIC 6

7. Using a pet comb brush them. PIC 7

8. Cut them at about 6/8 cm or preferred length. You can use a ruler or book mark for help. PIC 8

9. Optional, especially if the fringe is quite long, use a spray starch to hold the fringe

STAR 2

MATERIAL:

1 x Copper Star Wreath by Hobby Craft

200gr of Return of the Mac in Ecru by Hobby Craft

EQUIPMENT:

Scissors

Masking tape

Crochet hook or Tapestry needle

TUTORIAL:

(Video Tutorial available on my IGTV from 13th November)

1. Cut 2 x 1.5meters of string

2. Make half square knots starting from the top all the way around the star, using the two strings together.

3. When you run out of string, cut two more pieces 1.5 meters long and start a new half square knot around the copper start wreath and the 4 strings

4. Continue until you reach the end. Turn the macrame and with the help of a crochet hook or tapestry needle pull the 4 strings through one or two half square knots and trim the ends.

Have a lovely festive season and I am looking forward to seeing your macrame stars.
